Community

Social Value and Community

At Drew Smith we are not only passionate about the communities we create but also about the communities that surround our developments. When we deliver new homes, we ensure that we spend time to carefully consider how we can support the existing neighbourhood.

We work collaboratively with local community groups, parish councils and residents and support local schools and colleges to provide education, resources and support to make positive changes to the areas around the communities we create.

Charity
Drew Smith has chosen to support Macmillan to support as their chosen charity until the end of 2022. Macmillan Cancer Support takes the time to understand each and every person that has been effected by cancer so that they can provide the right support, tools and inspiration to help them through. They understand that each persons cancer journey is unique and offer a variety of help and support so that you can live life as fully as you can. We’re here to help everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can. Whether you need help paying bills, advice on benefits or treatment, or just want to chat, Macmillan are there for you.

Zoe’s Legacy
The team at Drew Smith have launched a campaign to raise awareness of cancer, focusing on Ocular Melanoma which is a cancer of the uvea within the eye. The campaign has been created in memory of a colleague who sadly lost her life to eye cancer in 2021. Zoe, a Quantity Surveyor at Drew Smith, was diagnosed in April 2021 and was passionate about leaving a legacy within the company and to raise awareness of early detection of both skin cancer, as well as eye cancer. Zoe was diagnosed with Ocular Melanoma after a routine eyesight examination; although she received treatment, she lost her short but brave battle earlier this year and Drew Smith are now committed to fulfilling Zoe’s legacy wishes. The team have taken up the challenge to spread this message and raise awareness with the team and the wider business. Staff have been provided filled with useful information and equipment which includes UV sun cream and UV rated eyewear which can provide protection at work. They have also been offered a free eye test with an additional OCT scan which can help detect any abnormalities and can help with early detection.

Drew Smith Schools Programme

Our unique and extensive experience within the construction sector allows us to work closely with local schools and we are committed to provide schools with the resources for them to use to teach children about construction and the environment. Engagement with local schools and colleges can include site tours, careers talks and bespoke outreach experience days. We have school activity packs which provide classroom activities that schools can deliver to their students which can be requested.

Drew Smith is calling on school children to design their perfect wildlife garden.

No matter the size or shape of your outside space, you can create a garden that wildlife will love. Whether it’s plants to please the bees, ponds for the frogs or even trees for the birds, we want to see your designs to create a garden that will let wildlife go wild! Our chosen winner will be awarded with £500 National Garden Gift Vouchers to create a wildlife garden in their school grounds. Two runners up will be awarded with items for their school garden that will help to attract wildlife.

Children’s Activities

As many of the Drew Smith team are also parents, we understand the need to have access to fun and educational activities to help your children learn. We have created these fun activities that are easy to use and can be completed at home. Whether your children are looking for things to do in the school holidays, on a rainy day or just love anything to do with construction.

We hope that these activities will help you keep your children out of mischief as well as sparking an interest in a future career in house building!

Don’t forget to post your photos to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and tag Drew Smith so we can see how you get on.
