Children at St George’s C of E Primary School Celebrate Winning Home Design.

At the start of this year Drew Smith launched a competition with the local school to their Spyway Orchard site in Langton Matravers. Today the winners from St George’s C of E Primary School joined Ben Simpson, Site Manager, to take a look at their designs which have now been displayed on the main gates to the site.

The competition was part of an educational pack provided to the school which provided them with some information and activities around the site at Spyway Orchard as well as the construction industry. The children were asked to design a house elevation as well as a floor plan and a winner from each year was picked by Ben and his team and presented with their prize at the end of the last term.

This week Drew Smith proudly displayed the winning designs which included a marshmallow room, film rooms, a mini bouncy castle and even a room designed to house zoo animals.

Ben said, “It has been so much fun working with the children and helping them learn about the work we have been doing on site. I was delighted with the competition entries and it was really hard to choose the winners. I look forward to see what projects these future architects develop as they grow up!”

The site at Spyway Orchard will deliver 28 three- and four-bedroom quality new homes in partnership with Aster Group and will be delivered in 2022.

Katy Astle, Acting Headteacher at the school said, “We had a really positive response to the competition and there were some really excellent entries from all classes. It has been great working with the team at Drew Smith and learning all about the new homes and the construction site.”

Ben and his team have plans to work with the school further by organising site visits and opportunities to learn more about the wildlife and ecology on the site in the later stages of the development.
