Sir Keir Starmer MP visits Drew Smith at Oaklands

This month Sir Keir Starmer MP, leader of the Labour Party, and Thangham Debbonair MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Housing, attended a site visit to Oaklands alongside Drew Smith and Southampton City Council.

Adrian Cator, Managing Director of Drew Smith, and his team hosted the VIP guests, who also included Leader of the Council Christopher Hammond.

The visit was co-ordinated by Southampton City Council and Drew Smith to demonstrate the council’s house building programme.

Oaklands is a 100% affordable rent development, providing 103 homes. Located on the site of a former school, it is a superb example of a local authority land asset being put to good use.

Housing delivery on this important site supports the City Council manifesto commitment to provide 1,000 Council Homes by 2025.

Sir Keir Starmer said: “There needs to be an absolute focus on affordable houses and the best way to do that is to put your power and your resources with your local council because schemes like this show just what can be done.”

Adrian said: “It was a pleasure to host such high-profile guests at Oaklands and to demonstrate this innovative and collaborative partnership with the council. We’re committed to providing high-quality affordable homes, in the places they’re needed most.”
